News ReleaseWoodmen of the World to Sponsor Special Olympics Flag Football Competition September 24, 2009 Omaha, Neb. – On Saturday, September 26, Special Olympics Nebraska will hold its first ever flag football competition sponsored by Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society and its local lodges. Nebraska is among the first states to launch flag football as a Special Olympics sport. Flag football will be featured as an exhibition sport at the 2010 USA Special Olympics National Games in Lincoln, Neb. Currently Nebraska has 13 Special Olympics flag football teams from across the state and 10 of them will be competing Saturday at the Flag Football Invitational at the UNO Sports Dome (former Chili Greens) in Omaha. "We give credit to Nebraska Special Olympics and Woodmen of the World Lodges for having the vision and commitment to be one of the first to pilot flag football for Special Olympic Athletes in Nebraska,” said John Manna, AVP, Community Outreach for Woodmen of the World. “We look forward to hosting this event and witnessing the development of flag football for the athletes as they prepare for the 2010 National games which will be held in Nebraska."
