Woodmen of the World to Sponsor Welcome Rally for "Ride With the Forty"

September 3, 2009

Omaha, Neb. – Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society will be sponsoring a welcome rally during Omaha's Septemberfest for five motorcyclists traveling cross-country from Newark, New Jersey to San Francisco, California to symbolize the original flight plan of United Airlines Flight 93, the aircraft that went down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania during the September 11 attacks.

Between approximately 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, many local motorcyclists will escort the five "Ride with the Forty” riders to Parking Lot D on the north side of the Qwest Center, where citizens of Omaha, Council Bluffs, and surrounding towns will gather to welcome them in support of their journey. During the rally, Woodmen of the World Executive Vice President, Fraternal, Mark Theisen will present a donation from the organization to fund the construction of a permanent Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Attendees are welcome to leave tributes on a temporary mobile memorial that will accompany the riders across the country as they make their way through 11 states. Items left on the memorial will be archived at the permanent memorial in Shanksville once a permanent memorial is built.   Community members are also welcome to donate to the campaign or to purchase "Ride with the Forty” t-shirts at the rally.

The Omaha Fire Department has offered the use of two ladder trucks at the rally in order to fly Woodmen of the World's 30' x 60' American flag to welcome the motorcyclists to the city and in honor of the 40 Flight 93 passengers and crew members who sacrificed their lives on September 11.
