Red Cross Program
When Joseph Cullen Root founded Woodmen in 1890, there were very few public agencies to provide help for people and communities in times of need. It was an era when people came together to help one another. As a fraternal benefit society, Woodmen offered members both insurance protection and the opportunity to work together to help others.
It was in that caring spirit that Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881, relying on dedicated volunteers to provide services to people in need. Now, more than a century after Woodmen and the American Red Cross were founded, the two organizations have joined forces to form a unique partnership designed to provide disaster relief to people and communities throughout the nation. More than a century after Woodmen and the American Red Cross were founded, the two organizations have joined forces to form a unique partnership designed to provide disaster relief to people and communities throughout the nation.Under this partnership, Woodmen volunteers are trained by the Red Cross in disaster assistance and safety education programs. Hundreds of Disaster Action Teams exist throughout the country. This partnership furthers Woodmen's fraternal commitment by creating a corps of Woodmen volunteers across the nation to assist people and their communities in times of need. |
